[It's been three weeks now. Three weeks since Mithos died. Yuan should know, he's the one who killed him. Now everything is quiet- too quiet. Revivals don't usually take this long, which means Mithos could very well be hiding out somewhere. Finally, he decides to put this to the test and makes an attempt to contact him.]

I know you've returned. Have you finally learned your lesson about keeping a low profile, or is that too much to hope for?

[This was an absolute bluff. For all Yuan knows, the Malnosso have decided to keep Mithos for additional experimenting. Still, if that's so, then he won't even see this entry and no harm will be done.]

[Shortly after this, from early in the afternoon on, Yuan can be found sitting on the roof of house #8. He'd been patrolling the village perimeter every so often for the past week, but today he'd rather stick close to home. The roof is a good place to keep an eye on his surroundings and it's relatively quiet.

After an hour or so, he lies back to stare up at the passing clouds. To think, Presea and Zelos were sent home recently, only to be replaced by Lloyd of all people. Luceti never ceases to catch Yuan off-guard, even after this many years.

Anyone is free to spot him and tell him to get down from the roof! Or join him up there. Whichever.]

[It takes her a second, grabbing the edge of the roof with her free hand to make things a little easier, but she manages to get up okay with his help! Once up there, she plots herself down and stretches out her right arm, bending it twice.

Yep, it's all good] Thank you.

[And Yuan settles down next to her. He'd ask what happened to her arm, but he feels that may be too intrusive of a question. He knows he wouldn't like it if she ever asked details of how he got injured, either.]

... I wonder if our next experiment will be as chaotic as the last one.

Hopefully not but it's difficult to tell at this point. There is no pattern in any of the experiments the Malnosso conduct what-so-ever. It's annoying, really.

[She hates not being able to figure what is going to come]

Yes, it is. Only few experiments return each year like clockwork, and even then they're never quite the same.

Which experiments? [She hasn't been here for over a year yet so she doesn't know]

Halloween usually turns chaotic. Around the 19th of December, some memory loss takes place annually. We lose two to three days, though no one's entirely sure why this happens. ... Halfway through February, something happens related to Valentine's Day. It's never quite the same- most likely to catch us offguard.

[The Halloween and Valentine's Day stuff isn't all too surprising but... ] Are these days picked randomly or are the days right before the nineteenth?

I'd say it's mostly random. Some years the memory loss began on the 18th, other years on the 20th... Some years it was three days lost, last year only two. If there's a pattern, I haven't found it.

I see, how bothersome. It isn't abnormal for the Malnosso I must admit though. They tend to surprise us whenever they get the chance to.

Yes, they do. If it happens again this year, at least you'll know it's an annual disturbance and nothing to worry about.

I suppose so. I'd still like to know why it happens at least. It will continue to bother me unless I do.

[Yuan's lips quirk into another smile at that.]

It's only natural for a detective to have a thirst for investigating the unknown. [Yup, he remembered what Naoto's aiming to become. The legacy her parents left for her.]

That is indeed true. [She chuckles a little. It makes her happy that he remembered what her occupation is--not that she's surprised he remembered, it's just nice

But speaking of investigating the unknown... ] Yuan-san, may I ask you something?

[That question actually makes Yuan a little cautious. If it's a detective asking the questions, he knows it might border on personal territory. But, well, it is Naoto and she just asked so politely. He can't say "no" without even hearing the question.]

Of course.

Do you think you could tell me about your world?

[That really isn't what she wanted to ask. She really wanted to dig more into Yuan's past but she has to ease herself into that first.]

What do you want to know about it?

[Yuan knows far too much about that world. Specific questions will help him narrow down what to share, but also what to keep to himself.]

[Can she just say 'everything'?]

What were the people like?

... More close-minded than the people here.

Really? Why is that?

... There are so many different people here, with so many different customs... One has no choice but to be accepting.

[Which is, of course, Yuan's pessimism speaking for the most part. But it can't be a coincidence that most humans back in Aselia are prone to racism, while the humans here are all pleasantly surprised by new races.]

I suppose that is true.

[She's sighs a little] I assume that in your world, people dislike diversity?

Most of them do, yes. They're content to live in their own little world, refusing those who are even remotely different.

[There's exceptions, of course, but... The great majority of the world is extremely close-minded.]

I see. It's disappointing that even in different worlds, people still continue to behave in such a way.

[Not that it's as severe as that back in her world but there are still people like that... and she would know]

Yes... It's the same in your world, then?

It isn't uncommon to see people like that in my world, no, but I can't say it is quite as severe as yours. People in my world are fairly accepting of those who may be different than they are, perhaps due to the constant foreigners that travel throughout the world and bring their own culture with them. Though there are those that refuse to see and accept what they're aren't accustomed to.
