[Approximately one day ago, two of Luceti's resident Seraphim embarked on a journey to the old desert fort, just outside the tunnel's exit. Of course, why use the tunnel itself when they can fly? They were very discreet about the matter and made sure to be far outside the village before actually taking flight, but now that it's more than a day later, they've passed over the mountain range and entered the desert area.

Now, to find that damned fort in this enormous sandbox. It couldn't be too far away, right? Let's hope not. They'll have to stop for a break soon and that would be more infinitely more comfortable in the shade.]

[Kratos had only been to the fort once in the past - his trip with Svala had him pass it entirely. With Yuan's advice, he flies to the south slowly, scanning the endless horizon before him. Nothing looks familiar - of course, there aren't really any landmarks in a desert.]

[Unless you happen to recognize a grain of sand, then nope. No landmarks whatsoever. Yuan swoops upwards a bit more, hoping to catch a glimpse of what's beyond that dune over there- only to see more sand. Sigh.]

The first thing I'm doing when we reach that thing is attach an enormous colorful flag to one of the towers.

And just where do you plan on finding such a thing? Unless you intend to part ways with your cape.

[Kratos will go to the left after this, intending to get a closer look at what lies beyond another dune.]

Yours is far more colorful. I'm sure purple stands out like a charm.

[Ahhh, good old bickering. That's one way to keep Kratos' mind off certain matters.]

I believe it was your intention to create a flag in the first place. I'd hope you'd use your own resources for it.

Fine, how about I leave you behind and head back to the village to get some cloth? Shouldn't take more than two days.

By that time, I will find the fort, finish what needed to be done, and return home. Leaving you to find it once more.

Because obviously, the fact that it was my idea to go out here in the first place doesn't matter.

If you so insist on abandoning the mission and stretching its length of time simply to make it easier for the both of us...

[Snap, now he can't think of any more comebacks. Time to grudgingly admit defeat.]

... I'll just bring a flag next time.

[He flits ahead just a bit, trying to peer over the next dune.]

[They can act like such kids sometimes. Kratos can't help but give a tiny little smirk over winning this particular squabble. He flies above, trying to get a better vantage point for viewing the desert. The dunes are annoying to try and see over, though... Any luck, Yuan?]

[No need to get cocky, Kratos. It was an incredibly meaningless little argument. Discussion may even be a better word for it. Not that Yuan wouldn't have smirked if he'd won, of course.

No. No... ... Oh wait. There's something in the distance that seems out of place. It may just be the top of a certain fort.]

Over there! What's that?

[No way to find out unless they look closer, so Kratos flies forward, passing Yuan to investigate. It doesn't take him long to call behind him.]

It appears to be the fort we've been searching for.

[Hey, what. Yuan's perfectly capable of taking a closer look himself. If that's the way Kratos wants to play it, then fine. He zooms forward at full speed, making sure his fellow Seraph hears him as he passes:]

Race you to it!

[Hey, what. That catches Kratos a bit off guard, which loses him a couple of precious seconds as he raises an eyebrow over that. He's not particularly in the mood, but he'll take the challenge and race after him at full speed!]

[Kratos will just have to get in the mood, dammit. He'd do the same thing if Yuan were depressed over the loss of some woman. ... Well, okay, not really. Kratos would try a different, probably equally retarded stunt.

Better hurry it up, buddy, because Yuan's not going to show any mercy. He's not just racing to cheer you up, he's racing to win.]

[If Yuan was depressed, Kratos would offer to spar with him. Not race. Nothing like getting your frustrations out by punching someone.

He's hurrying, man! He's going as fast as he can here! At least he has a hair shield to block the sand from his eyes. Do YOU?]

[As if Kratos would let himself be punched. Letting your frustrations out by zooming through the sky at top speed is just as effective and less painful. ... If you have a hair shield. If you don't, it's just a matter of squinting. Even so, ow.

But it's worth it to beat Kratos. At least there's no crazy sandstorms going on.]

[Goddammit, angels fly at about the same speed here, so he's having a hard time catching up. NOOOO]

[Well, Yuan might be slowing down just a tad because the sun is blinding him. It's what you get for flying southward during the afternoon. Go, Kratos, go!]

[HAIR SHIELD, ACTIVATE!

HE RACES ON AS FAST AS HE CAN, UNHINDERED BY THE SUN!]

[CURSE YOU KRATOS. HOW MANY TIMES MUST YOU GET IN MY WAY?!

Yuan's going to try and shield his eyes with a hand, hoping to keep up his speed. The fort is closing in fast, but will he make it or will Kratos pass him by?]

[Even with Kratos' efforts, it looks like Yuan is just a hair ahead...!

But Kratos doesn't slow down until he hits the fort! Rather, until he flies downward, lands right beside it and places his hand on it. How about you, Yuan? Kratos vaguely thinks it'd be funny if Yuan was so busy shielding his eyes that he'd crash into the fort.]

[Actually, the eye shielding does leave Yuan a bit distracted. He doesn't crash face-first into the fort, though. Instead, there's a bit of stumbling and generic failure when he touches down. He tries to protect his face by making a sharp turn, making sure he crashes sideways into the harsh stone instead. Ow. Elbow. Pain. ... But he totally made it there first, right? Right?]

[That was just as good. Kratos turns his head away to hide that half smirk forcing its way up. You haven't changed, Yuan. You're still a failure.

...And since we're so indecisive let's call it a tie. Or Yuan made it just a millisecond before Kratos and thus Kratos will call it a tie.]

Heh.

[You cheater. But fine, we'll call it a tie if Kratos doesn't say a word about the fail landing. That's a good deal.]

It's been a while since I got to let loose like that.

[He won't say it to anyone else, at least. Kratos allows his wings to disappear as he makes his way to the entrance of the fort.]

Years, as I recall.

This world has far too many restrictions.

[Yuan's already running a hand past the wall as he follows Kratos to the entrance. He has to assess just how worn down this place is, after all.]

[Kratos... doesn't seem to be bothering with that. He just looks around, taking everything in.]

[Too busy getting lost in nostalgia to help out, you useless lug? Well, that's fine. It's more of a one man's job. Looks like the outer walls are relatively intact.]

Yet one still had the freedom to change things for the better, as long as you followed ridiculous ideals. Even that seems impossible here.

[He'd say Yuan can handle it himself. But yes, that's the main reason here.]

For now, at least. Things in our world seemed hopeless for many long years until Lloyd came into our lives.

[He's not going to respond to that, because he's learned not to push things when it comes down to Lloyd, but... Speak for yourself, Kratos. Yuan was already working to save the world long before Lloyd was even conceived.

Oh, look, the fort's entrance. Let's just go inside.]

[But hey, those plans of yours wouldn't have been completed or move beyond "KILL THE CHOSEN" if it weren't for Lloyd, right?

Kratos heads inside, though he stops at the doorway. How's it look in there?]

[... It was a 'work in progress' sort of thing.

It looks pretty good, actually. A couple of cracks in the walls, but other than that, it's salvagable.]

Hm... I think we can work with this.
