This hunter has managed to injure many people already. His powers must be enormous. To think, he's even taken lives. We really are just sitting ducks, waiting to be killed. I wonder-
[hastily added scribble] Speak of the devil...
[The voice recording gets activated and the sound of footsteps is heard nearby. Then, suddenly, a sharp intake of breath, a dull thud as if someone landed on the ground after jumping a fair distance, and the clash of metal meeting metal]
Damn! I guess attacking you from behind won't work either, huh?
[More clashes, accompanied by soft grunts and heavy breathing. Obviously, a battle is taking place. Then, finally, one last metallic hiss and a thud in the background.]
... Well, this isn't good.
[Hurried, pounding footsteps are heard]
[[OOC: Basically, Yuan was sitting in a tree, writing in his journal when the hunter came passing by. He thought he'd be smart and try to attack the guy from above/behind, but of course the hunter saw that one coming a mile away. After a short battle, his weapon was knocked from his hands and now he's running for his life. Feel free to reply and tell him to use those scrawny little legs.]]

You're actually going in the opposite direction of where you need to go, that's fine. If you remember the direction of which the river was flowing, that's a good start. If you remember it flowing down, follow that direction.
